About the Project

I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (SR 884)

Project History

The FDOT completed a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study for the I-75 corridor from south of Bonita Beach Road to north of SR 78 (Bayshore Road). This study analyzed the 2030 Ultimate Improvements for the 27.9-mile corridor of I-75. As part of this study, interchange improvements were proposed for the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard interchange. This PD&E study was approved under the Type 2 Categorical Exclusion on December 30, 2002, by the FDOT. This project is now in the design/build phase.

Purpose of Project

The project corridor is an urban principal arterial inside the city limits of Fort Myers serving as a main connection between the western and eastern sections of Lee County. The improvements will enhance access to I-75, as well as improve overall safety, increase capacity, and facilitate emergency evacuation within the County. In addition, the improvements will help serve travel demands created by anticipated countywide population and employment growth.
