About

The Cortez Road Corridor Vision and Action Plan is being led by FDOT District One in a partnership with Manatee County, Sarasota-Manatee MPO, local communities and other stakeholders.

The project will develop an integrated land use and transportation vision for the Cortez Road corridor and define multi-modal transportation strategies and complementary land use policies to guide the evolution of the corridor.

The study is organized into two project phases - Phase 1, Corridor Context and Vision and Phase 2, Corridor Action Plan.

Phase 1 will define the local and regional context from a transportation, land use, environmental, sociocultural and economic perspective.  It will identify existing conditions and trends and provide contextual information for engagement with partner agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders. The corridor context and the desires and opportunities identified through stakeholder engagement will provide the foundation for defining the corridor vision. The corridor context and community-based vision will be characterized and illustrated in a Corridor Vision Plan.

Phase 2 will include the development of a Corridor Action Plan. The action plan will evaluate and identify specific strategies to accomplish the safety, accessibility, connectivity, and land use objectives for the corridor. It will include a phased implementation plan that describes the roles and strategies for FDOT and its agency partners in carrying out the plan. It will include operational strategies, multimodal connectivity and safety strategies, as well as land use and other policy recommendations.
