444937-1 State Road 78/Bayshore Road Capacity Study from I-75 to State Road 31 in Lee County
Project Details
About
Need for Improvements
Currently, SR 78/Bayshore Road is a two-lane undivided roadway with four-foot shoulders and no sidewalks or bicycle facilities. SR 78/Bayshore Road is an important corridor for commuters and freight as it provides access to several developments near and along the roadway, and to other roadway networks such as US 41, I-75 and SR 31. Additionally, SR 78/Bayshore Road is a designated evacuation route.
FDOT District One is evaluating widening SR 78/Bayshore Road to accommodate future traffic, improve safety, and upgrade the roadway design to serve the needs of all users, including bicyclists and pedestrians.
The purpose of this PD&E study is to evaluate and document the engineering and environmental issues associated with this SR 78/Bayshore Road PD&E study and then select a recommended alternative based upon that evaluation.
Project Funding
The project is identified in both the FDOT's FY 2019/2020 - FY 2023/2024 Five-Year Work Program and the Lee County MPO's FY 2019/2020 - FY 2023/2024 Transportation Improvement Program with $1,500,000 allocated for the PD&E study.
