About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One will begin construction of safety improvements on SR 544 (Martin Luther King Boulevard) by replacing the existing two-way left turn lanes with a raised median from 5th Street Northwest to 1st Street North. Once the separator is in place motorists will only be able to make right turns in and out of 5th Street Northwest, Unity Way Northwest and 2nd Street Northwest. A directional median opening with dedicated left turn lane will allow left turns onto 3rd Street Northwest from eastbound MLK Boulevard.

The changes are the result of a traffic study conducted in late 2021 that evaluated turning movements, traffic counts and crash history along MLK Boulevard. The changes are designed to improve safety.
