The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One has begun a Project Development & Environment Study to evaluate the widening of SR 70 from an existing two-lane undivided roadway to a four lane divided facility, with the addition of paved shoulders, and possible improvements to the SR 70 and US 27 intersection.  The study area for the proposed SR 70 project extends from Jefferson Avenue eastward to County Road 29 for a total length of approximately 7.1 miles.  SR 70 is a principle arterial and the primary east-west highway for the Lake Placid/Southern Highlands County area, providing regional access to employment centers, agricultural lands, and residential areas across the state.
