US 41 Pedestrian Safety & Resurfacing Project from Winker Avenue to South of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard (SR 82)
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is working to improve safety on Cleveland Avenue (US 41) in the downtown area. FDOT has obtained funding to build the safety improvements outlined in the City of Fort Myers Master Plan and construction is underway.
The contractor will relocate and install new utilities, medians, drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrade signals and lighting, and resurface existing roadway. Utility work will require some utility shut-offs, and the project team will notify residents and business owners in advance about scheduled disruptions in service. Message signs and roadwork advisories to media will alert drivers about planned changes to traffic.
The project will be constructed in three segments. Each segment will have the majority of construction completed prior to moving to the next segment. Construction began on Segment B from Halgrim Avenue to Katherine Street. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is complete, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue.
