{"id":3543,"date":"2026-10-01T14:39:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T18:39:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swflroads.com\/d1safety\/?p=3543"},"modified":"2026-10-01T14:42:56","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T18:42:56","slug":"october-is-pedestrian-safety-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swflroads.com\/d1safety\/news\/october-is-pedestrian-safety-month\/","title":{"rendered":"October is Pedestrian Safety Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During October, USDOT and NHTSA celebrate National Pedestrian Safety Month, which is especially timely as more pedestrians will be out enjoying cooler evenings and towards the end of the month for Halloween evening.<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA offers these driving tips to keep everyone safe:<br \/>\n\u2022 Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions \u2014 76% of pedestrian fatalities in 2024 occurred in the dark.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, around schools, and in neighborhoods where children are present.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Drive sober \u2014 alcohol use (for the driver and\/or pedestrian) was reported in 43% of all fatal pedestrian crashes in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Look out for pedestrians everywhere and minimize blind spots.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk.
