Biking
Biking is an option many commuters choose for part or all of their commute. Our app helps individuals identify bike routes, plan their bike commute, and combine biking or walking with other travel modes.
Safety First!
- There are some essential steps before heading out on your bike commute. These first steps include tuning up your bike, planning an effective route, and familiarizing yourself with Florida’s bicycle traffic regulations (Florida Statute 316.2065).
- We recommend these videos from The League of American Bicyclists as you inspect your gear bikeleague.org/ridesmart/ridesmartvideos/
- Many resources are available to help prepare you for your bike commute. One resource is Cycling Savvy, a three-part course on traffic cycling safety.
- Commute Connector also offers Bike Safety Training courses at worksites. Interested in scheduling an on-site course at your workplace? Contact us by email or call (866) 585-RIDE (7433) today.
Bikes on Buses
Riding your bike is a great way to bridge the gap between your home and the nearest bus stop
- Most buses are equipped to carry bikes, making it easy to combine cycling with transit (Methods vary by transit provider. Check with your local transit agency for specific details.)
Walking
Depending on your distance from work, walking can be a great option for your commute. Comfortable shoes and a shower/locker room at work will make walking more feasible, especially in the Florida heat.
Your safety is always the most important aspect of commuting to work. Get familiar with Florida Statute 316.2065, which outlines pedestrian traffic regulations.
Important walking law tips:
- If there’s a sidewalk, you should use it. If there’s no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
