The State Road (SR) 31 Extension Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study will evaluate potential impacts to the natural, social, cultural, and physical environment to determine which, if any, of the proposed alternatives meet the project need. The alternatives being studied are located near Arcadia within central DeSoto County. The total project length is approximately five miles.

In April 2019, FDOT completed the ACE Feasibility Study. The ACE Feasibility Study recommended that Corridors B, F, and J should be refined through additional analysis in the project’s next phase, the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. These corridors were recommended based on public comments, stakeholder input, engineering considerations, cost, and their relative potential for social, physical, cultural, and natural impacts. The PD&E Study phase will offer additional opportunities for public input as the corridors are developed and refined into alternative alignments.

A copy of the final Alternative Corridor Evaluation Report (ACER) is available on the Documents and Publications   page.

Study Update:

Currently, Corridors B, F, and J, are being refined to become alternatives, which are more specific roadway concepts within each corridor.  These alternatives will offer enough detail to calculate and compare the impacts and costs associated with each.  The No Build Alternative, in which no improvements are made, will remain an option throughout the PD&E study.

Due to funding issues associated with impacts resulting from COVID-19, the project has been temporarily placed on hold from December 2020 through July 2021.

The alternatives under consideration, along with any associated impacts and costs, will be presented for public consideration and input at a Public Information Meeting tentatively scheduled for Summer 2022.

Additional information about the date, time, and location of any upcoming public meetings will be advertised on this page once they are scheduled.
