UPCOMING PUBLIC HEARING – 3/26/2024

FDOT invites you to an upcoming public hearing. The purpose of this hearing is to present the preferred alternative and all analysis completed to date, and to provide the public an opportunity to comment for the official hearing record. Read the Public Involvement section below for all information.

Project Description

The purpose of the US 41 at Bonita Beach Road (C.R. 865) Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study is to address congestion and projected travel demand at the intersection and immediate surrounding area. The study area is located within Bonita Springs, Florida in southern Lee County.

Need for the Project

The purpose of this project is to evaluate the need for capacity-related improvements, as well as ways to improve safety conditions and provide for multi-modal features within this area of Bonita Springs, Florida. The project objectives include improving operational conditions, enhancing east-west access, enhancing freight mobility and access, increasing throughput, and improving safety among others.

Project Funding

This PD&E project is listed in the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) 5-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Fiscal Year 2022/2023 - 2026/2027. The next phase in the project development process, final design, is not yet funded. This project is also being closely coordinated with the on-going PD&E for Old US 41 from US 41 to Bonita Beach Road.

3/4/2024 Project Documents Posted

Project documents will be available for public viewing from March 4 to April 5, 2024, at the City of Bonita Springs City Hall, 9101 Bonita Beach Road SE, Bonita Springs, FL 34135; Bonita Springs Public Library, 10560 Reynolds Street, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 and at Florida Department of Transportation, Southwest Area Office, 10041 Daniels Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33913. They will also be available on the project webpage in the Project Documents box below. You will be able to submit comments online if you are unable to attend the hearing.

Displays will be available starting at 5 p.m. to review at your own pace and the formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m. The project team will be available for discussion.

You are able to provide written comment about the project at any time, but comments must be submitted by April 5, 2024 to be included in the record for this hearing.  You may also call the project manager (phone number to the right) if you have questions before you submit your comment.

FDOT held a public workshop, with a live online event on April 3, 2023 and a live in person event on April 4, 2023. Materials were also available for review and comment below from March 27, 2023.
