BARTOW, Fla.: Work on the I-4 interchange at SR 557 in Polk County will require double lane closures at night and a temporary eastbound traffic shift on I-4 next week. Motorists can expect nighttime/overnight single lane closures starting at 9 p.m. and double lane closures starting at 10 p.m.

  • Monday night, May 1 and Tuesday night, May 2, lane closures are scheduled both east and westbound while crews repair temporary barrier wall and prepare for an eastbound traffic shift.
  • Wednesday night, May 3 into Thursday morning, May 4, crews will shift eastbound traffic slightly north onto the old westbound lanes so they can continue building the new eastbound lanes and exit ramp and remove the remainder of the old bridge.
  • Use caution, be prepared to merge and expect delays.

This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4. Traffic has been shifted onto the new SR 557 bridge and new westbound lanes of I-4.
