SR 739 from north of the Caloosahatchee River to SR 78 (Bayshore Road): Construction Project: This project is intended to improve safety, enhance traffic flow, and reduce crashes by constructing a continuous raised median, with bi-directional and full median openings. Proposed improvements also consist of milling and resurfacing of the roadway, two pedestrian hybrid beacons, upgrading the traffic signal at Pondella Road, ADA upgrades, lighting, signing and pavement markings, and drainage improvements.
Beginning Thursday night, April 9, and Friday night, April 10, 2026, motorists should expect intermittent nighttime/overnight lane closures at the intersection of Pondella Road, Mariana Avenue, and near West North Shore Avenue. Crews will be erecting the new mast arms. Motorists should use caution as crews work on and near the roadway. Law enforcement will also be on site to help direct traffic accordingly.
On Wednesday night, September 17, 2025, the left (inside) lanes on northbound and southbound S.R. 739 were reopened, and the right (outside) lanes were then closed. This traffic shift marks the beginning of Phase 2 of the project.
During this time, pedestrians should follow the posted detour to access Pondella Road from Pine Island Road.
Please use caution in the area, as crews will be working on and near the roadway.
Estimated completion of the project has been adjusted due to project resequencing in response to addressing community concerns. Estimated completion is Spring 2026.
Please note that the construction schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions.
