S.R. 70 from Lorraine Road to Bourneside Boulevard: Construction project: This project includes widening S.R. 70 from Lorraine Road to Bourneside Boulevard from a two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane or six-lane divided roadway, depending on the location, construction of roundabouts on S.R. 70 at Uihlein Road, Del Webb Boulevard, and Bourneside Boulevard, intersection improvements at the existing signalized intersection of Greenbrook Boulevard and Lorraine Road, construction of four bridges over two Braden River crossing locations, new drainage system, construction of 10-foot shared use paths, street lighting, and landscaping, and installation of new fiber optic cable connecting the two signalized intersections to Manatee County’s regional Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
Safety Notice - Recently, bicyclists and pedestrians have been observed entering the work zone and using shared-use paths within the project limits. Although these areas may appear finished, construction activities are still ongoing. These areas are not open to the public and may contain open excavations, fresh asphalt, or uncured concrete, posing significant safety hazards to anyone not affiliated with the project. These roadways and shared-use paths within the work zone are clearly marked as closed with signage. Additionally, vehicles have been observed driving through closed side streets while workers are present, creating a serious risk of injury or accident.
This week’s work will consist of:
- Excavation of the pond on the north side of S.R. 70, west of Uihlein Road.
- Installing slope protection rip-rap on both S.R. 70 westbound bridges. Forming and pouring concrete pile caps.
- Demolition of the existing S.R. 70 median east of Lorraine Road. Flagging and lane closures will be present in both directions of S.R. 70 for this work. Please exercise caution with construction equipment and personnel working close to current S.R. 70 traffic.
- Grading base between Bourneside Boulevard and Polo Run on the north side of S.R. 70 for shared use path.
- Installing signalization hardware at the intersection of Greenbrook Boulevard and S.R. 70.
- Grading roadway stabilization and curb pad on Greenbrook Boulevard south of S.R. 70. Installing drainage inlet tops on Greenbrook Boulevard.
- Installing light conduit and foundations on the north side of S.R.70 between Uihlein Road and Bourneside Boulevard.
Greenbrook Boulevard is closed until May 2026 to allow for the construction of the south portion of the Greenbrook Boulevard intersection. During this time, no traffic is permitted on Greenbrook Boulevard between S.R. 70 and Skip Jack Loop in either direction. The north side of Greenbrook Boulevard and S.R. 70 will remain open. A full detour route and message boards are in place in advance of the closure.
Please use caution and watch for trucks and construction vehicles entering or exiting the work zone throughout the construction limits. Work will take place Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Be aware of workers and flaggers in the area.
The estimated completion date for construction is Summer 2027.

S.R. 55 (U.S. 19) and S.R. 684; from 23rd Avenue W to 39th Street E, from Terra Ceia Road to I-275 and at Royal Palm Drive, Manatee: Construction project: These projects include making improvements along S.R. 55 (U.S. 19) from 23rd Avenue W to 39th Street E, S.R. 55 (U.S. 19) from Terra Ceia Road to I-275 (northbound ramp) and along S.R. 684 at Royal Palm Drive in Manatee County. Improvements will involve milling and resurfacing S.R. 55 from 23rd Avenue W to 39th Street E implementing safety improvements, guardrail replacements, sidewalk repair, lighting updates, pedestrian signal replacements, and median modifications. The estimated completion date for construction is spring 2027.
· SR 684 (Cortez Road) between 103rd Street Court W. and 99th Street W. - The contractor will be milling existing asphalt and paving new asphalt on Sunday, March 22, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Lane closures will vary as work progresses, with at least one lane closed in each direction at all times. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone.
The estimated completion date for construction is spring 2027.
