SR 72 Stickney Point Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Starting in June, crews will begin work on the bridge improvement project to extend the bridge's service life and operational reliability, while mitigating the effects of the harsh coastal environment, severe weather, and wear from the volume of vehicle and marine traffic. The project duration is expected to be 200 days.
UPDATED: No scheduled lane closures this week. Current activities are structural steel and mechanical equipment improvements.
- · Bridge openings for boat traffic will continue as usual. If a vessel requires both panels be raised to navigate through, a reservation is required.
- · Bicyclists and pedestrians will still have access to cross the bridge.
- · At this time, there are no weekend lane closures expected.
- · Residents, businesses, marinas, and mariners should expect construction equipment, barges, and noise.
- · Residents near the bridge can expect noise from equipment.

Overnight lane closure Monday, July 22, from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.:
- Going on island, westbound on Stickney Point Bridge;
- Partial left turn lane closure at the median westbound Stickney Point Road prior to the intersection;
- Eastbound Stickney Point Road leaving the island.
- Use the alternate north bridge or add additional travel time.
Bicyclists and pedestrians will still have access to cross the bridge.

Legacy Trail over Clark Road (SR 72) and Bee Ridge Road (SR 758) Construction Project: Crews have begun constructing two new pedestrian bridges and intersection improvements along the Legacy Trail in Sarasota County. Expect noise from construction equipment, large trucks, and back-up alarms. Occasional nighttime shoulder and/or lane closures during construction to install beams will also be needed. Expected completion is winter 2024/2025.
- Occasional flagging operations will be needed.
- Use caution in the area as large construction vehicles enter/ exit the roadway.
