SARASOTA, Fla. - The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, will host a public meeting on the Resurfacing, Restoration and Rehabilitation of State Road (SR) 683/ US 301 from US 41 to south of 10th Street on Tuesday, August 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Selby Library, Jack J. Geldbart Auditorium.

The project will mill and resurface the existing roadway and will include improvements to comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. It also includes upgrades to pavement markings and signage, pedestrian signals, and detectors at signalized intersections. The City of Sarasota has requested the addition of a new midblock crossing (Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon) to be installed at South Payne Parkway.

These proposed improvements will enhance roadway quality, condition and safety for multimodal travel along US 301.

For stakeholder convenience, FDOT provides three ways to participate:

  • In-person: Tuesday, August 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Selby Library, Jack J. Geldbart Auditorium (first floor), 1331 1st Street, Sarasota, FL 34236. No registration is necessary. Free parking is available in the library parking lot, main entrance. Two-hour limit.

All participants, regardless of the platform, will receive the same information and all comments received will be given equal weight.

There are four convenient ways to provide comments:

FDOT is sending notices to all property owners and tenants within at least 300 feet of either side of the proposed project and to elected and appointed officials, businesses, and interested parties so all have the opportunity to comment.  While comments about the project are accepted at any time, please provide your comments by Thursday, August 28, 2025, to be included in the public meeting record. 

FDOT solicits public participation without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or family status.
