BARTOW, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin construction on U.S. 17/92 from North Ramona Avenue in Lake Alfred to east of South 3rd Street in Haines City on Monday, November 17, 2025. The project will include resurfacing and safety improvements along this key Polk County corridor.

Preliminary work starts Friday, November 14, as crews begin placing signs and erosion control devices. On Monday, November 17, workers will remove delineators at the intersection of U.S. 17/92 and Lee Jackson Highway to prepare for paving. The delineators, which currently guide motorists through left-turn-only movements, will be temporarily replaced with barrels during construction to maintain the same traffic pattern. Once paving at the intersection is complete, delineators will be reinstalled.

Motorists should expect the median at Lee Jackson Highway to be closed on Monday, November 17, with traffic using the next available median opening for U-turns.

Milling and paving operations with lane closures will take place overnight between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. to minimize impacts to daytime traffic. Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and be prepared to merge.

Project Improvements Include:

  • Milling and resurfacing existing asphalt pavement
  • Reconstructing curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards
  • Resurfacing most side street entrances, select driveway connections, and the U.S. 27 ramp connections to U.S. 17/92

The $7.8 million project is expected to take approximately nine months to complete.
