State Road 739 (North Tamiami Trail) from north of the Caloosahatchee River to State Road 78 (Bayshore Road) Update
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – To our valued community, we are pleased to share regular updates on the ongoing construction of State Road 739 from north of the Caloosahatchee River to State Road 78. We are committed to delivering these safety improvements as quickly as possible while ensuring quality and safety remain top priorities.
Reminder
Last month, the early reopening of the double right-turn lanes (eastbound Pondella Road to southbound Business 41) was achieved through strategic resequencing of the work. Only activities requiring a permanent double-lane closure were completed during this phase.
While additional work remains (that was originally planned during this detour), moving forward, lane construction activities will be performed using temporary single-lane closures with barrels that are in place only during active work hours and removed at the end of each shift. This means motorists will be able to make the right turn from eastbound Pondella Road to Southbound Business 41 (which was unavailable during the double lane closure).
Recent Work
This past week, crews began pouring the foundation for the upgraded traffic signal. In addition, work progressed along northbound and southbound Business 41 to install new and upgraded roadway lighting and associated conduit. Crews also completed sidewalk replacement work at multiple locations along the corridor.
Upcoming Work
Future work will include conducting additional closures in the eastbound, outside turn lane from Pondella Road to southbound Business 41 (S.R. 739).
Estimated completion of the project has been adjusted due to project resequencing in response to addressing community concerns. Estimated completion is early 2026.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to finish this roadway improvement project. Stay tuned for future updates as we make progress on this critical project.
