CSX Emergency Repair to Close Eastbound I-4 Exit 31 at Kathleen Road Friday June 16
Bartow, Fla. – CSX Transportation (CSX) will close the eastbound outside lane of I-4 and the eastbound exit #31 ramp at SR 539 (Kathleen Road) from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, for emergency track repairs. The lane and exit closures are necessary for safety reasons as the tracks go over I-4, and the outside lane and eastbound exit are located below the area to be repaired. The outside and center eastbound I-4 lanes will remain open. Westbound I-4 will not be affected.
During the closure, detour signs will direct eastbound exiting traffic to the next exit #32 at US 98. Motorists will exit I-4 at US 98, turn right and travel south on US 98 North/North Florida Avenue to SR 548 (George Jenkins Boulevard), and turn right on George Jenkins Boulevard back to Kathleen Road. Backups and delays are probable, especially during peak travel times. Travelers are advised to use caution and add extra travel time to their schedule.
A new CSX bridge over I-4 is under construction in this location, but these repairs are unrelated to that project. For more information on the bridge project, visit www.swflroads.com/project/201217-8.
