MATLACHA, Fla.– Traffic volumes continue to increase for motorists traveling to and from Matlacha Island, particularly during peak season, as visitors and residents frequent local businesses and pedestrian activity rises. Additional delays are also occurring due to ongoing drawbridge work being conducted by Lee County.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is actively monitoring traffic conditions along the Pine Island Causeway corridor. At this time, there are no scheduled daytime lane closures on the Little Pine Island Bridge associated with the bridge reconstruction project. Intermittent traffic holds may occur when large construction equipment must be transported across the bridge. These brief pauses are coordinated to safely move equipment while protecting both motorists and construction crews.

To help reduce congestion impacts, FDOT has limited lane closures to off-peak hours whenever possible and continues coordinating closely with local partners to avoid overlapping disruptions. Construction operations are carefully scheduled to maintain traffic flow while advancing the project efficiently.

The Little Pine Island Bridge project is currently in Phase 3, which includes final construction elements and completion activities. The project remains on schedule for completion before spring 2026.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, especially during peak afternoon and weekend hours.
