Lee County Announces Progress on Resuming Drawbridge Mechanical Operations in Matlacha
MATLACHA, Fla. – Beginning Tuesday, February 24 to Thursday, February 26, the Lee County Department of Transportation will begin operational testing of the drawbridge to ensure the system is functioning properly.
Test openings will mirror standard bridge operations and will allow vessels to pass through as they would under normal conditions. Motorists should expect brief delays consistent with typical bridge openings while the drawbridge is raised and lowered.
These operations are separate from FDOT’s work on the Little Pine Island Bridge and will have no impact on the ongoing bridge reconstruction. The Little Pine Island Bridge reconstruction remains on schedule for completion before Spring 2026. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
Drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling through the area.
To sign up for updates, please visit the project website at 451937-2 Pine Island Causeway and Bridge Reconstruction Project. To access the drawbridge traffic cameras, go to https://www.leegov.com/dot/traffic.
