STATE ROAD 29 BETWEEN I-75 AND U.S. 41 TO CLOSE FEBRUARY 28 IN COLLIER COUNTY
Collier County, Fla. — Out of an abundance of caution, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) will temporarily close (State Road (S.R.) 29) in Collier County on Saturday, February 28, beginning at 9 a.m., to allow the U.S. Forest Service to safely conduct a prescribed burn. The roadway will remain closed until conditions are deemed safe for motorists.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will support the closure by implementing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) operations and activating digital message boards to keep drivers informed. This coordinated effort between FDOT, FHP, and the U.S. Forest Service is focused on ensuring public safety and minimizing travel impacts.
Traffic is being rerouted based on the fire perimeter, smoke plume direction and real-time visibility conditions.
Travelers are urged to use the following detour routes or find an alternate route.
- For northbound travel on S.R. 29 (from U.S. 41 toward I-75/Immokalee area)
- From the U.S. 41 junction (near Carnestown/Everglades City), travel north on U.S. 41
- Turn north on Collier Boulevard/S.R. 951 and proceed toward I-75
- Proceed south on I-75 to the S.R. 29 interchange north of the closure (Exit 80)
- For southbound travel on S.R. 29 (from I-75 toward U.S. 41/Everglades City)
- Take I-75 north towards Naples
- Take exit 101/S.R. 951
- Travel south on S.R. 951 to U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) southbound toward the Everglades City/Carnestown area
Motorists should plan ahead or determine alternate travel options, as well as check fuel levels, drive alert, and be aware of changing speed limits and travel conditions.
Updates to travel conditions including road closures can be seen in real-time at FL511.com.
FDOT will continue to monitor conditions and closely coordinate with local officials and emergency responders.
