SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is responding to a vehicle crash involving an overhead sign structure and bridge along Interstate 75 at Proctor Road in Sarasota County.

Earlier this morning, a truck traveling northbound on Interstate 75 struck an overhead sign structure near Proctor Road. After striking the sign structure, the truck continued forward and struck the bridge, where it is currently wedged beneath the structure.

FDOT bridge inspection personnel are on site and have determined the overhead sign structure sustained significant damage and will need to be removed. Once the truck is safely removed, crews will conduct a full structural inspection of the bridge to assess any potential damage.

Current Traffic Impacts

  • Two right lanes of northbound Interstate 75 at Proctor Road are closed to traffic.
  • Motorists should expect delays in the area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible.

FDOT will provide additional updates as more information becomes available and after the bridge inspection is completed. Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area.
