LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is advising motorists of overnight traffic pacing operations on Interstate 4 (I‑4) as part of ongoing work for the I‑4 at S.R. 33 Interchange Improvements and Wildlife Crossings project.

Contractor crews will be relocating a crane from the I‑4 median to the westbound outside shoulder and then returning it to the median on two nights: Tuesday, March 24, and Friday, March 27.

To safely accommodate this operation, traffic pacing will begin at approximately 2:00 a.m. on both nights. Pacing will start near State Road (S.R.) 559 and continue westbound to the area near Polk Parkway. During pacing, law enforcement officers will slow traffic to create a short-term gap, allowing crews to move the crane safely across travel lanes.

Motorists should expect reduced speeds, potential delays, and brief rolling traffic holds in the pacing zone. Drivers are encouraged to plan extra travel time, use caution in the work zone, and follow directions from law enforcement and posted signage.

These operations are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.
