OVERNIGHT PACING OPERATIONS ON I 4 FOR CRANE RELOCATION
Lakeland, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One is notifying motorists of overnight traffic pacing on Interstate 4 (I‑4) scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as part of the I‑4 at S.R. 33 Interchange Improvements and Wildlife Crossings project in Polk County.
Beginning at 2:00 a.m., law enforcement officers will conduct traffic pacing on westbound I‑4 to create a controlled environment for crews relocating a crane. The operation will move the crane from the median of I‑4 to the westbound outside shoulder and then return it to the median once work is complete.
Traffic pacing will start near State Road (SR) 559 and continue westward, ending near Polk Parkway (SR 570). During each pacing event, drivers should expect reduced speeds, temporary delays, and intermittent slow‑moving traffic. Motorists are encouraged to plan for additional travel time, exercise caution, and follow all instructions from law enforcement and work crews.
This crane movement is necessary to support ongoing construction activities associated with the I‑4 at S.R. 33 Interchange Improvements and Wildlife Crossings project, which aims to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and provide dedicated wildlife connectivity along the corridor.
FDOT appreciates the patience of motorists and the surrounding community as crews work to complete these important improvements safely and efficiently.
