FORT MYERS, Fla. – Motorists who travel across the Wilson Pigott Bridge should prepare for a temporary full closure in mid-April to allow crews to install a new grid deck.

The new grid deck will be delivered on site the week of April 6. Once materials arrive, crews will begin preparing for installation.

The bridge is scheduled to close overnight on April 12, at which time a detour will be implemented. The full closure will remain in place for approximately 10 days. Construction crews are expected to begin replacing the grid deck on April 13.

During the closure, the bridge will be inaccessible to all traffic, including passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, buses, and delivery vehicles. Motorists will be required to follow the posted detour route. (See the attached detour and alternate route maps.)

The detour will direct traffic to Interstate 75 to cross the Caloosahatchee River as an alternative to Babcock Ranch Road/State Road 31. Motorists should plan for additional travel time.

Local businesses located just south of the bridge will remain open during regular business hours and will be accessible via State Road 31 traveling northbound from State Road 80.

To maintain emergency response capabilities, fire rescue, law enforcement, and EMS personnel will be strategically staged on the north side of the bridge throughout the closure.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) understands the importance of keeping the public informed and will continue to provide updates as construction schedules are finalized. For real-time traffic information, motorists are encouraged to visit FL511.com.
