LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advises motorists of scheduled overnight detours on State Road (S.R.) 33 (Commonwealth Avenue) and select Interstate 4 (I‑4) ramps due to bridge construction over S.R. 33.

The detours are scheduled to occur on Monday night, April 13, 2026, from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. If work is not completed as planned, a backup night of Tuesday, April 14, will be used during the same overnight hours. If construction remains incomplete, an additional backup date of Monday night, April 20, may be implemented, weather permitting.

During the overnight detours, S.R. 33 northbound at I‑4 and select I‑4 ramps, including I‑4 eastbound Exit 38 to S.R. 33 and S.R. 33 on‑ramps to I‑4 eastbound, may be temporarily closed. Motorists traveling northbound on S.R. 33 will be directed to I‑4 eastbound, exit at S.R. 559 (Exit 44), and continue to University Boulevard/S.R. 33. I‑4 eastbound drivers traveling to S.R. 33 will follow posted detour signage to the alternate route, Exit 33. Truck traffic will follow the same posted detour routes. All detours will be clearly marked with signs and message boards, and roadways will reopen to normal traffic by 6:00 a.m. each morning.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use caution while traveling through the work zone. These temporary closures are necessary to support ongoing I‑4 bridge improvements that will enhance safety and traffic operations in the area.
