State Road (S.R.) 739 (North Tamiami Trail) from north of the Caloosahatchee River to S.R. 78 (Bayshore Road) Update
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – To our valued community, we are pleased to share regular updates on the ongoing construction of S.R. 739 from north of the Caloosahatchee River to S.R. 78. We are committed to delivering these safety improvements as quickly as possible while ensuring quality and safety remain top priorities.
Recent Work
This past week, crews installed the signal poles for the new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) near Mariana Avenue. Crews also continued installing new roadway lighting, which brings the lighting to 95% completion. Street signage installation also progressed, which brings signage to 90% completion. Crews also continued with new concrete pads around the recently installed pull boxes. In addition, crews also continued to install the new signalization wire and traffic signals onto the new mast arms in preparation for completion of the upgraded signalization at the Pondella Road intersection.
Upcoming Work
Continuing this week into next week, crews will conduct nighttime/overnight lane closures at the intersection of Pondella Road, Mariana Avenue, and near West North Shore Avenue to continue erecting the signal poles. Law enforcement will also be on site to help direct traffic accordingly. Crews will be installing the traffic signals for the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) on State Road 739 (Business 41) at West Mariana Avenue and near West North Shore Avenue. Additionally, crews will remove existing lighting infrastructure and remediate with new concrete sidewalk. Still to come, crews will pave the final riding layer of the roadway. Estimated completion of the project has been adjusted due to project resequencing in response to addressing community concerns. Estimated completion is Spring 2026.
