LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will implement a series of temporary detours at the I‑4 and State Road (S.R.) 33 interchange in Lakeland as construction continues on new bridges, ramps, and roadway improvements.

As part of this work, S.R. 33 northbound will be closed at I‑4 during nighttime hours on Monday, April 20, 2026, to Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with motorists detoured via University Boulevard and truck traffic routed onto I‑4 eastbound to Exit 559. The I‑4 eastbound Exit 38 off‑ramp to S.R. 33 will also close during this operation, with drivers directed to use Exit 33 instead.

In addition, the I‑4 eastbound on‑ramp from S.R. 33 (Ramp C) will close on Monday, April 20, 2026, to Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from at 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., requiring southbound S.R. 33 traffic to follow a local detour and northbound S.R. 33 traffic to use S.R. 559 to access I‑4 eastbound. Warning signs and portable changeable message signs will be placed two weeks prior to each closure, and additional detour signage, barricades, and traffic control devices will guide motorists through the area.

All schedules are weather‑permitting, and drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signs, and allow extra travel time while these improvements are underway.
