FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announces the successful completion of repairs to the Wilson Pigott Bridge, which reopened to traffic at approximately 10:30 a.m. today following a 10-day closure.

The project involved replacing the aging steel grid deck with a new steel grid deck to enhance safety and extend the service life of the bridge. FDOT met its aggressive construction schedule, recognizing the significant impact the closure had on daily commuters and the surrounding community.

FDOT extends its appreciation to Lee County Traffic Operations for their partnership throughout the closure. Traffic signal timing across the area was adjusted to help manage detour routes and maintain traffic flow as efficiently as possible.

All vehicles, including commercial trucks and buses, are now permitted to use the bridge.

“These repairs were necessary to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the structure,” said FDOT. “We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as this important work was completed.”

While the temporary closure created challenges, the project was essential and will support safer travel moving forward. With the bridge now reopened, nearby communities can return to more typical traffic patterns.

For updates, motorists are encouraged to monitor local traffic reports and FDOT’s FL511.com.
