CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Beginning Sunday night, April 19, 2026, motorists should

expect a full-time intersection closure on West Olympia Avenue at Taylor Street in

downtown Punta Gorda. This full-time intersection closure is anticipated to last through

the end of May 2026.

Reminder

The full-time closure of this intersection is necessary to allow the contractor to repair damaged underground pipe. The damage, which was caused by prior extreme weather events, was identified during construction. Motorists are reminded about the official detour in place to follow throughout the closure.

Trucks traveling southbound on U.S. 41 that want to travel eastbound on Olympia Avenue will need to utilize West Virginia Avenue and then U.S. 41 northbound until they reach eastbound Olympia Avenue.

Trucks traveling southbound on U.S. 41 that want to travel northbound on U.S. 41 will need to utilize West Virginia Avenue and then travel northbound on U.S 41.

Motorists are also encouraged to use the newly implemented Roundabout on U.S. 41 and Carmalita Street to access U.S. 41 northbound and eastbound Olympia Avenue

Pedestrians should follow the posted detour signage in the area.
