BARTOW, Fla. – Crews are scheduled to begin removing and replacing safety striping at 10 railroad crossing locations in Polk County. The crossings will be completed one at a time starting tonight, Monday, May 11, 2026, with all construction activities scheduled between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should expect lane closures and traffic shifts and are advised to use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.

The affected Polk County crossings are scheduled in the following order and are expected to take approximately five to six days each. Dates are approximate, and crews will move to the next location as work is completed. The tentative schedule is as follows:

  • South Lake Parker Avenue north of U.S. 98 South (Bartow Road): May 11–16
  • SR 572 (Airport Road) south of U.S. 92 (New Tampa Highway): May 17–23
  • SR 37 (North Church Avenue) south of SR 60 (Canal Street): May 24–30
  • SR 37 (North Florida Avenue) south of East Pine Street: May 31–June 6
  • SR 60 east of Nichols Road: June 7–13
  • SR 17 at Griffin Fertilizer south of Frostproof: June 14–20
  • SR 60 at Mosaic east of Bonnie Mine Road: June 21–27
  • SR 37 at Agricola north of Bradley Junction: June 28–July 3
  • U.S. 17/92 south of Ernie Caldwell Boulevard: July 5–11
  • SR 37 (Church Avenue) south of Ft. Green Mine: July 12–18
