Nighttime Signalization Work, Temporary Sidewalk Closures and Median Crossover Closure at S.R. 17 and North Lake Avenue

AVON PARK, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advises motorists and pedestrians of nighttime signalization-related construction at the intersection of S.R. 17 (Main Street) and North Lake Avenue in Avon Park. Work is scheduled to begin September 8, 2026, and continue for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

·                Signalization work: Crews will perform directional boring, pull-box installation and other signalization improvements. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and possible delays.

·                Sidewalk work: One sidewalk will close at a time. After work on the first side is completed, the closure will move to the opposite side. Pedestrians will use the open sidewalk, marked crosswalks and posted detour signs.

·                Median crossover closure: Motorists will not be able to use the median opening to cross S.R. 17 while the crossover is closed.

Drivers and pedestrians should use caution and follow all posted traffic-control signs.
