201217-8 CSX Bridge over I-4 Replacement
Roadwatch UpdateProject Details
About
Project Description
The Florida Department of Transportation along with CSX Railroad is replacing the railroad bridge crossing over I-4 in Lakeland. The bridge is located 1200 feet west of the Kathleen Road (SR 539)/I-4 interchange (Exit 31) and about 400 feet east of the West Bella Vista Street overpass.
The existing 250-foot bridge will be demolished and two new 400-foot parallel bridges will be built in its place. The longer dual bridges provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4 without the need to disrupt traffic and reconstruct the bridges again.

-
- Expect nighttime overnight single lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and double lane closures from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights. Use caution, be prepared to merge and add extra time to your schedule to reach your destination.
- Nighttime ramp closures are expected at the U.S. 98 westbound onramp on Sunday, March 29, and possibly Tuesday, March 30. Drivers heading to I-4 westbound will be detoured via the eastbound ramp, exiting at Kathleen Road to reenter westbound I-4.
- Ramp closures will NOT be on the same nights as the I-4 lane closures on this project and will be done one at a time. Watch for posted detours.
