This drainage improvement project is located at the lowest point on South Scenic Highway - at the bottom of three hills in Lake Wales, Florida. The existing inlets were not sufficient to capture all of the water, not only causing a roadway failure during Hurricane Ian, but also requiring excessive maintenance at this location on a regular basis. This project, which is located at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and South Scenic Highway, will bring much needed drainage relief to the area. Project Improvements included:

• Added additional curb inlets, cross drains and pipe to improve drainage

• Reconstructed curb, gutter and sidewalk on the west side of South Scenic Highway

• Improved accessibility at sidewalk curb ramps that did not meet ADA requirements

• Replaced guardrail and updated signs

• Reconstructed the intersection at Hillcrest Avenue with State Road 17
