About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin resurfacing and making safety improvements along U.S. 98 (S.R. 700) from east of Floral Drive to east of County Road 621 in Highlands County starting early January 2025. The project includes milling and resurfacing, shoulder widening, guardrail installation, drainage enhancements, updated signing and pavement markings to improve road safety and durability.

U.S. 98 (State Road 700) from East of Floral Drive to East of County Road 621: Construction project: Crews have begun milling, resurfacing, and widening the roadway. The project also includes drainage enhancements, guardrail upgrades, and updated signage.
- Crews will conduct daytime flagging operations for pavement corrections throughout the project. Final work activities will also include guardrail and sign installation.
- Construction activities will pause beginning Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025, and resume Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
- Motorists should use caution in the area and watch for workers and equipment in the construction zone.
Estimated completion is expected in January 2026.
