What improvements are included in this project?

The project includes milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter work, sidewalk upgrades, signalization, roadway lighting, railroad crossing reconstruction, and new signing and pavement markings. Additional drainage improvements will be completed near Lake Verona.

Where is the project located?

The project is located along State Road 17 (S.R. 17) from County Road 17 (Kenilworth Boulevard) to east of U.S. 98/U.S. 27, and from south of Lake Verona Boulevard to south of Delaney Avenue in Highlands County.

When will construction begin?

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026 and is expected to be completed in Spring 2027.

How much does the project cost?

The estimated construction cost is approximately $10.8 million.

Will traffic be impacted during construction?

Yes. Temporary lane closures, road closures and changing traffic patterns may occur during construction activities.

Will detours be provided?

Yes. Traffic detours and pedestrian detours will be in place during portions of construction. Motorists and pedestrians should follow posted signage and directional arrows.

Will access to businesses and homes remain open?

Access to nearby homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible during construction.

Why are these improvements needed?

These improvements will enhance roadway safety, improve drainage and increase visibility along the corridor.
