455785-1 State Road 82 at Alabama Road

This project delivers roadway and safety improvements along State Road 82 at the intersection of Alabama Road in Lee County. The work focuses on enhancing traffic operations, upgrading pedestrian connectivity, and overall corridor safety. As a part of the project, a brand-new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of State Road 82 and Alabama Road.

Project Improvements include:

• Milling and resurfacing the existing roadway
• Upgrading drainage systems and sidewalks
• Installing new curb and gutter features
• New signal at S.R. 82 and Alabama Road
• New and enhanced roadway lighting
• New signing and pavement markings

This signal was planned for SR 82 at Alabama Rd was planned primarily to address two things:

1. The existing safety issues at State Road 82 and Alabama Road, primarily angle crashes associated with the full access median opening. This median has been temporarily closed with delineators until this signal can be built.
2. Intersection capacity and operations. This intersection’s SBR and EBL suffer excessive delay due to the high number of vehicles making these movements and the high number of conflicting vehicles.

What kind of intersection will be featured?

This intersection design is called a "signalized restricted crossing U-turn". That means vehicles from the side street, in this case, Alabama Road, must turn right onto State Road 82 and complete a U-turn at a designated area if they want to travel left or continue straight.

There will be 1 pedestrian crossing across State Road 82, which will go through the central median island.
