The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a resurfacing project in July 2025 along State Road (S.R.) 78 in Okeechobee County, from Bridge No. 910094 over Lemkin Creek to U.S. 98 (S.R. 15/US 441). The project covers approximately 1.691 miles and includes milling, resurfacing, new pavement markings, installation of rumble strips, and traffic detection loops at the intersection of westbound S.R. 78 and S.R. 15. With an estimated cost of $2 million, the project aims to enhance roadway safety and driving conditions.

  • S.R. 78 from Lemkin Creek to S.R. 15/U.S. 98: Construction project: Crews are performing thermoplastic pavement marking operations along S.R. 78.

    • Motorists should use caution, reduce speed in the area, and watch for workers and equipment in the construction zone.
    • Nighttime lane closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

    Estimated remaining duration of activities is two weeks.

    Overall project completion is expected in summer 2026.
