The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a resurfacing project in July 2025 along State Road 78 in Okeechobee County, from Bridge No. 910094 over Lemkin Creek to US 98 (SR 15/US 441). The project covers approximately 1.691 miles and includes milling, resurfacing, new pavement markings, installation of rumble strips, and traffic detection loops at the intersection of westbound SR 78 and SR 15. With an estimated cost of $2 million, the project aims to enhance roadway safety and driving conditions.

  • SR 78 from Lemkin Creek to SR 15/US 98: Construction project: Crews will perform milling and resurfacing operations along SR 78 from Lemkin Creek to SR 15/US 98 beginning Monday, September 20, 2025. Work will take place during daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    • Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures will occur during daytime hours, with traffic reduced to one lane as needed. Northbound and southbound lanes will not be closed simultaneously.
    • Milling and asphalt paving operations will take place throughout the project corridor. Motorists should be aware of changing traffic patterns, heavy equipment, and workers in the construction zone
    • Motorists should use caution, reduce speed in the area, and watch for workers and equipment in the construction zone. 

    Estimated duration of activities: 5 weeks.

    Estimated project completion is early 2026.
