About

Due to the damaging impacts of Hurricane Ian on the Pine Island and Matlacha community, FDOT is reevaluating next steps regarding the Pine Island Road Shared Use Path Feasibility Study.
As soon as more information is available, we will update this webpage.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, please visit www.floridadisaster.org for information on resources available to victims of Hurricane Ian.

Within the study limits, Pine Island Road has no dedicated bicycle facilities and intermittent unconnected pedestrian facilities. This project will evaluate the feasibility of connecting the existing trail/multi-use path network and provide a connection between Pine Island, Matlacha, and Cape Coral. Alignments on both the north and south sides of the roadway will be evaluated.

In addition, this project will evaluate potential “Complete Streets” elements to be incorporated into the corridor to help provide a safe and viable travel option for both motorized and non-motorized commuters and recreational users of Pine Island Road.

FDOT has formed a Project Advisory Group (PAG) that consists of agencies and stakeholders. FDOT will meet with the PAG throughout the study. These meetings will assist the project team with identifying issues, opportunities, and potential transportation solutions for the corridor. For information regarding these meetings, please see the documents below.
