About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One will begin improvements to multiple intersections along State Road (SR) 683 (US 301) in Sarasota County. The project was requested by FDOT's District One Traffic Safety Department and is intended to improve safety, enhance traffic flow, and reduce crashes.

The project includes implementing various improvements to four (4) intersections along SR 683 (US 301): 12th Street, 17th Street, 21st Street, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Improvements include adding signal heads, additional signage, and special emphasis crosswalks. Additional improvements include a proposed restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) at the 21st Street intersection including Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHB) on mast-arm assemblies.

NOTE:  To recover from delays due to Hurricane Helene and Milton, the construction schedule has begun  and required necessary adjustments.

  • The existing speed limit shall remain in effect for all traffic control areas, unless otherwise directed by the engineer. The posted speed limit on SR 683 (US301) is 45 MPH.
  • Motorists can expect day and night time lane closures.
  • Please consider alternate routes or add additional travel time. Travel time will be monitored.
